Change "Estates General" to "National Assembly"

[edit]

Change "Left and Right were coined during the French Revolution, referring to the seating arrangement in the French Estates General." to "Left and Right were coined during the French Revolution, referring to the seating arrangement in the National Assembly."

I checked and it comes from the seating of the National Assembly and not the Estates General. Source: https://www.history.com/news/how-did-the-political-labels-left-wing-and-right-wing-originate

Other Wikipedia articles contradict this one by correctly stating that it comes from the National Assembly and not the Estates General: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left–right_political_spectrum TheHadiRahim (talk) 16:41, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done. The source cited also mentioned the National Assembly, so not sure how this came about. ― novov (t c) 02:04, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I’m not sure if this article is exactly accurate and/or neutral

[edit]

It claims that left-wing values are those that favor “social equality” and “equal opportunity” despite these values generally being supported by all people (including right-wingers). I also feel like this may be a bit of an oversimplification of certain issues that go beyond such simple and rudimentary values. (For example, the issue of gun control isn’t really about social equality but rather safety and rights; left-wingers generally want guns to be controlled and certain guns banned, whereas right-wingers generally believe that owning a gun, regardless of type, is a right that shouldn’t be taken away.) I can’t say that this article is inaccurate or biased for absolute certainty, and I am free to hear others’ thoughts, but I feel like this article might need some work. If other ideologies share characteristics with Left Wing Politics it doesn't mean that they should not be listed here. If you want to discuss edits to the article do, but the tag is not appropriate. -----Snowded TALK 00:58, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. LordOfWalruses (talk) 02:04, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I found a very interesting source, which doesn't criticize the academic left but analyzes it in depth (also comparing it with the conservative point of view): [1]; can we add this source to the article? JacktheBrown (talk) 08:07, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
